That makes no sense. If anything we're talking about culture, here. Which is why Oasis and Blur were massively culturally significant and popular at making pub jukebox friendly anthems for a generation, whilst Radiohead quietly released the album that the critics of the world media would consider increasingly significant, whilst Oasis seemed musically important for no more than 3-4 years.

We are talking about music here. Not Radiohead.

It's always about Blur and Oasis.. and yet it's OK Computer that's topping '100 greatest album' (etc) lists around the world. Happened again last week in a popular Russian magazine.

i m not sure if britpop and cool britannia came naturally..i mean bands of that period made britpop just 4 success.the originals bands of cool britannia r blur, pulp, oasis, suede and charlatans all the others killed britpop.. sure media, diana, blair and the lifestyle of gallaghers r also reasons..

Woow, I would never say that "Politics and music go hand in hand" ! that's quite unexpected... From what I hear, english music doesn't sound so bad. I'm talking about bands like the Guillemots, the Dead 60s, Kasabian or even the Libertines (who are a major influence for bands in Europe). Hm they don't sound as great as Blur, Elastica, Pulp, Smiths, Clash or whatever from the past decades, but you can be proud of what your country carry on producing in the world of music.

Thanks for your very interesting perspective. Politics and music go hand in hand. The Brit-pop era were good times in the UK. A kind of vibe that reflected everywhere. Today the music in the UK is Sh*t which is also reflected in the the vibe of the UK. Asylum seekers, high interest rates, extortionate house prices, war. Cmon Noel and Liam, write another cracking album and it just might get the UK out of this quagmire.

This is amazing. It fascinates me. You brits are very interesting, with your politic, your music, your art and your fashion (and even your cuisine). Such a shame we're enemies for several centuries... (I'm part of the frog population) XD I can't understand why you seem so creative. Still we're neighbours. I have to say that a lot of people here in France admire your recent history. And especially your music. Keep on being the coolest.

LOL.. what i meant was the euphoria. Plus apparently one factor why Be Here Now was a "failure" was that it was released close to her death or something. and it was a "happy", celebratory album. the opposite of the mood back then
